Food, Exercise & Environment

Tuesday was a super busy day at the cancer center!  All the chairs were filled up, even the private rooms.  When one seat was vacated, they would clean it off and then fill it right away.  It is hard to see this much sickness!  Guests were also visiting in abundance.  One nurse had to start pulling chairs from the waiting room, since all the guest chairs were in use.  Cancer rates in the nation are said to have gone down, but I'm interested in finding out about them in Utah.  Here there are people from different states, that travel here to receive treatment.

We were so blessed yesterday to receive visits from Tim & Debbie (keep them in your prayers).  Steven had Jeff come and bring lunch for us, which was a blessing.  The biggest blessing was having him come and go over the men's study in Romans that he has been missing on Tuesday nights.  Then came Sandy, who dropped of our laundry and went on a walk with me around the cancer center.  I was a blessing to get up and walk and also to have laundry done that the girls, could have something to wear.

Treatment weeks are hard.  Getting ready in the morning, then dropping off the girls to friends and heading to the cancer center where we sit for 6 hours.  Coming home to eat dinner and get a few things ready around the house and then try to get to bed early.  What a blessing to receive meals this week!  Thank you to Kim & Ryan, Jim & Judy, Brent & Joyce, Sandy and Lorrie for this blessing.  Healthy food takes a long time to prepare!  You can't just open a box or can and have it done.

For all the weeks that we have been here, we haven't seen anyone in there thirties or younger receiving cancer treatment.  This week another man in his twenties or thirties is here, his name is Jason.  He is starting his first week of chemo for testicular cancer, just like Steven.  He reminds me a lot like Steven's cousin and not just because of his name.  Yesterday and today a teenager is here receiving chemo.  It is hard for everyone, young and old.

It is defiantly been an eye opener.  Being healthy is so important!  I am amazed at how much unhealthy food is sold in stores, because us American's thrive on convenience.  Living on one income, we try to get by on a really small budget for food.  So eating unhealthy food has been the norm, not even really realizing it.  Now that we our changing our eating habits, it is harder to find good food.  No more fast food, even though we don't eat it a lot.  Don't wait till one of your loved ones becomes sick, to start changing how you eat!  Our bodies are the temple that God resides in and I polluted mine and my families without knowing it.

Exercise is also so very important!  Something our family has also neglected!  As soon as Steven gets well and over his symptoms, we are making sure we take care of the body that God gave us.  Praying that Steven's anemia, don't affect his organs.  His counts are really low and by what the doctor said the only way to change it is to have a blood transfusion.

Yes, we live in an environment that is so unhealthy for us.  United States and Europe, have the highest cancer rates and also the most industrialized.  Here we live in Salt Lake City, which is so polluted.  Also I think our house, is a place that can make us sick.  When we first moved in we ran a radon test, which came back high.  So unfortunately we waited two years, before running another test.  We have it up for 90 days, so we can make sure it is unhealthy.  Then find out which options we need to take to make our house healthy.  Also getting bites a lot in our house.  I did a lot of deep Spring cleaning to try to eliminate, these unpleasant bites.  Steven doesn't seem to be affected by bites.  Maybe the bugs, don't like the chemicals that are running in his body.  Elyssa and are are most affected by them.  I'm just tired of getting bites everyday, sometimes lots in the night.  They are not bed bugs, possibly dust mites!

Praying for our health, Steven is starting to feel the affects of the chemo and for some reason I have not been feeling the best.  Praying, praying and praying!
